Timisoara Saracens have resumed their training session with a reduced squad

The Timisoara Saracens squad is back to work since the Epiphany Monday

After a month's break, Timisoara Saracens have resumed their training sessions ahead of the second part of the 2019/20 season.

The squad reunited on January 6th has, unfortunately, a slightly reduced number of players, as 5 of them departed due to the financial insecurity of the club, amplified during this winter.

More specifically, Vasile Rus has decided to leave Timisoara Saracens after no less than 10 years, in which he contributed to all the 10 trophies won by the team, of which he raised 4 as a Captain. He also represented the club and Romania in the 2015/16 and the 2017/18 ER Continental Shield and the 2016/17 and the 2018/19 European Rugby Challenge Cup.

“It wasn’t an easy decision at all, especially after so much time spent here, in Timisoara. I have pondered a lot, I’ve spoken to my family and ultimately I have decided to end my rugby carrier and move towards something which can provide my family with a higher financial security.

The 10 years spent in Timisoara were the greatest years of my rugby carrier and I would like to thank my team mates, the coaches and the club management for the support shown throughout the time. I would have loved to have won another trophy with the team before “hanging the boots”, but that’s life, last year wasn’t meant to be. However, I have gathered some great memories, which, regardless what happens from now on, no one will be able to take away. Timisoara is and will remain my second home and any chance I will have, I will fondly visit. On this occasion, I would like to thank the supporters who have stood by me and by the team during the past 10 years and I hope we shall meet again.” (Vasile Rus)

Four more players will no longer be wearing Timisoara Saracens’ jersey starting from this year: the props Sione Taupaki, Paea Fonoifua and German Aranda, as well as the fullback Luke Samoa, who, although at the beginning of the season had signed an extension of the contract until the end of the 2020/21 season, decided to end his rugby carrier and returned, with his family, to Australia, after having spent two and a half seasons with Timisoara Saracens.

“I have discussed with my wife about our future and, unfortunately, given that a rugby income does not provide us a financial security, I have decided to end my rugby carrier and return with my family to Australia. I can only thank my family for the support over the years and for putting up with me while we were away from home and, in the same time, I thank Timisoara Saracens for the opportunity of representing the club in the last years of my carrier. There have been two and a half years which me and my family will remember fondly. Thank you to the supporters. Romania and Timisoara will always be places dear to my heart and I am happy to have had the opportunity of wearing both Timisoara Saracens’ and Romania’s jerseys.” (Luke Samoa)

“We are not happy at all with a few of our main players’ departing, but we thank all of them for the years and the months spent with us and for their contribution to the team’s results. We wish them all the best with all their future endeavours.

We cannot say, unfortunately, that the team reunion was a very relaxing one, given the fact that the financial situation has not been solved yet, but I’d like to thank all of those who have returned and I will do my best, with all that depends on me, to not deceive their expectations. I hope we will succeed in overcoming this obstacle and, as I have heard from the club’s administration, to manage to return back on track until the date the games will resume.” (Attila Brosovszki, General Manager)

The second part of the 2019/20 season is scheduled to resume in spring, the exact dates of the remaining matches to be confirmed by the Romanian Rugby Federation.
