The Saracens Lions return to Dan Paltinisanu for the third round of the SuperLiga CEC Bank 2019/20

Timisoara Saracens will welcome, this Saturday, SCM Gloria Buzau, for the third round of the SuperLiga CEC Bank 2019/20

After the bonus point win against Dinamo Bucharest on their home ground last week, Sarries return home to meet SCM Gloria Buzau. The guests will play their second SuperLiga match this weekend, after having lost to CSA Steaua Bucharest in the first round and after their week off in the second round. In Romania Cup, the second domestic competition, SCM Gloria Buzau have pinned a win against CS Dinamo Bucharest and a loss to CSA Steaua Bucharest.

Timisoara Saracens and SCM Gloria Buzau have clashed against each other only three times, all three times happening last season, as SCM Gloria Buzau freshly stepped up to the Superliga. The first match, played on August 11th 2018, within the Kings’ Cup quarter finals, in Buzau, ended with a Sarries win at the score of 52-19. The second game was played in Timisoara, on September 8th 2018, being the 1st round of the 2018/19 SuperLiga CEC Bank and the Lions recorded a second comfortable win of 51-6. However, for the last clash, on March 16th 2019, in Buzau, the hosts proved more ambitious and Timisoara Saracens returned home with a narrow win of 19-18, as the hosts had remarkably come back from 3-19 at half time.

Here are the statements of the Sarries meeting today with the local press, ahead of the fourth clash against SCM Gloria Buzau:

“Third round of the SuperLiga: very looking forward to another good week and a good performance on Saturday against Buzau, which is not going to be easy. We know Buzau has improved a lot, we know from last year that they are quite strong up front and they have explosive backs. But we want to make sure that we do our job, with our preparation this week. With the selection, we will make sure that we will get the balance across the board, giving some players some game time, but at the same time keeping our standards and our continuity, so that we can put in a good performance and get the results that we want. Other than that, we will have our final run tomorrow, Captain’s Run, so that we make sure we fine tune our preparation, tick all the boxes and come Saturday we will put in another good performance against Buzau.” (Sosene Anesi, Head Coach)

“We’ve had a good one week preparation after the last Saturday match against Dinamo. There will be some changes in the team, but we will keep the main structure and we hope to have a better performance as far as the forwards are concerned. We’ll try to get better results regarding the contested balls and, overall, we hope to show an evolution of our forwards’ performance. Although we are happy with the results obtained thusfar, we aim to continue to improve our performance, from match to match.” (Ulises Gamboa, Assistant Coach)

“I believe the team has grown from game to game as we had the opportunity of playing against better and better teams. Now we will meet Buzau and I think they will be a team stronger than the ones we met until now. Tomorrow we will make the last adjustments and we will have to have a good performance on the pitch, like we had before. After our past experience against Buzau I believe we will now show that we have learned from our mistakes. Our team has also improved since last season, we know we have to watch out when playing against them and I think we will have to put on the pitch the same performance we’ve showed in the previous matches of this season.” (Eugen Căpățînă, team captain)

As far as the injured players go, Cătălin Fercu, Ionel Melinte and Marius Iftimiciuc will still be unavailable for selection, recovering from their long term injuries. Also Horațiu Pungea will be off the pitch, most probably for a few weeks, following a knee injury from the last game.

The 3rd round of the SuperLiga CEC Bank, against SCM Gloria Buzau will kick off at 12:30 on Saturday, September 14th, on Dan Paltinisanu Stadium.
